how to get rid of hiccups

Almost everyone’s had hiccups at one time or another. They happen when your diaphragm begins to spasm involuntarily. Your diaphragm is a large muscle that helps you breathe in and out. When it spasms, you inhale suddenly and your vocal cords snap shut, which causes a distinctive sound.

While hiccups usually go away on their own within a few minutes, they can be annoying and interfere with eating and talking. As a result, people have come up with an endless list of tricks to get rid of them, from breathing into a paper bag to eating a spoonful of sugar. But which remedies actually work?

how to get rid of hiccups

There aren’t many studies that evaluate the effectiveness of different hiccup remedies. However, many of them are backed by centuries…

Pre-existing Diabetes in cat?

I have questions about diagnosing hyperglycemia and diabetes. We have a cat that had high blood sugar (Blood sugar,453) threw up hair balls for a couple of days, then 5 days later had a blood sugar level that was closer to normal. No treatment was done at the time, then months later developed a case of diabetes. Would the month she had a Blood sugar lvl of 453, then healthy levels following, Shouldn't there be a few tests completed before any conclusions can be drawn that she has diabetes? I have been reading that stress can raise the blood glucose level and it seems out of place that one blood test can make or break a diagnosis.

-Would this history and blood scenario be indicative of stress hypoglycemia verse a conclusive diagnosis of dia…

Darkening fur around eyes

My 5-year-old Yorkie was diagnosed with Diabetes in July. I monitor her glucose levels daily and make minor insulin dosage adjustments; she is doing well averaging glucose levels at 250. In the past few monthsReesecup1 18:12, October 14, 2010 (UTC), I have noticed a darkening in the fur around her eyes and nose. Thankfully her eyes are still clear and vision remains good. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this on their pet and if it was related to the disease. Thanks - Dee, Sewell

Diabetes in Dogs

I am new to this site. I am interested in information from people who have dogs with diabetes. I have a 4 year old Lab/Chesapeake mix who was diagnosed last year. None of his littermates have diabetes. He has never been overweight and is young for a big dog to develop diabetes. We are now up to 30 units of Humulin N (U 100) twice a day and he still spikes in the 500's on his sugar. He only eats his "diabetic" dog food. Any tips? Also any good place to buy his insulin cheaper thazn $57 a bottle? Thanks, MO

Changing insulin?

Hello,

I am new to this site, but it seems very helpful. My 5 year old cat Delilah has been diabetic for about 4 years now. She has reversed twice, needing no insulin. She is currently eating dry DM food I get at the vet. She is currently on Vetsulin 3 units twice a day. They are not going to make the Vetsulin according to my vet anymore. So, after this bottle I need to change the insulin. I used  PZI in the past, but at that time, they had a hard time getting it so I switched to Vetsulin, also the PZI was triple the amount. I just need some feedback about the other human insulins people have used that have worked for them.

Thanks so much,

Kristin
