On FDMB, there often are questions about a meter's margin of error. 20% is what is usually cited there. Would be good to get something about that in here. (I'm planning to do it in the future; just putting in a to do note.)

[edit] How About A Little "How-To"..

Steve,

Since you use your computer for keeping records of Jock, is there any way you could do a generic "How-To" page on wiki for this to give others a hand if they'd like to set up something similar? Know there's a difference in meters and their software, but am hoping you could come up with a page that would help others with the basics for theirs.

Keeping records like this and the ability to send them to a vet may mean less visits for curves and the like. Seeing the pet's bg home history when he/she is in for a check or curve may help illustrate things like "vet stress bg's" and avoid insulin increases which may wind up as hypo events. Being able to review them while the pet is in the office for testing may help explain some things for that particular animal.

I think more would be interested in doing something like this if they had a bit of a guide to help them set it up.

Great idea, Kathy. I'll do it soon. It might be part of Recordkeeping instead, I'm not sure --Steve and Jock 18:10, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Great!! Wherever you decide. Think a lot of pet people may be aware of the ability of the meters with the software, but since they're made for people, they believe they can't make it work for a pet.

[edit] No Coding of Precision Xtra

We hope 22:27, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Though Bayer's website shows that Precision Xtra requires no coding, can personally say that this is no longer true. The new test strips for both glucose and ketone testing, made their debut in June 2006. Both tests of them elminate the coding process for testing blood glucose and blood ketone testing. Just had a brand new one of these in my hand recently and the box has references to no coding required for either test all over it. The Abbott SmartChip works with all existing models of Precision Xtra--not just the new ones--so they also become no coding needed meters.

Abbott's website has been in a state of change for quite some time, making finding things next to impossible, as you are directed to the same "dead-end" URL most of the time. Hope I can find other references to the FreeStyle series which will indicate whether or not they, like Precixion Xtra, are also using the SmartChip technology.
